Consulted by your daughter? Priceless

I’ve spent the day sharing my mad webmistress skillz with Stephanie. She and a friend are starting an internet-based business selling a variety military-related items. I don’t want to spoil the “grand opening” so no more details about that but it was kind of nice to have a child of mine asking me how to do something.

When Steph was small she believed I knew the answer to everything. Then she started getting older. By the time she was 16 or 17, I didn’t know the right answer to anything. It has happened with the other kids too. Amber thought I was a complete idiot, Vicki hated all my ideas, April and the Boy still think I’m stupid. I love it when the Boy rolls his eyes as I give him advice. I’m not sure when the tide turns back for parents. Sometime after they leave home and start living on their own.

I remember a conversation out in the garage this summer between Amber and Vicki. They were discussing electric bills, the heat and the cost of air conditioning. Both of them were talking about how they keep the temperature pretty warm in their apartments and get upset when people leave the door open too long. All I could do was laugh and remind them of the millions of times Steve & I yelled “Shut the door!” and how they used to think we were retarded for worrying about “stupid” stuff like trying to refrigerate the entire neighborhood.

I’ve worked out a philosophy about the whole “parents are stupid” thing. When kids think they know more than their parents and believe they have better ideas on how to go about living their lives, they actually move out when they grow up. That’s a good thing. I have too many kids to risk having them suffer a Failure to Launch.

Tomorrow is Halloween. Don’t forget to take a picture of your cuties for the Costume Contest. Steve and Violet went to pick out a giant pumpkin yesterday. They plan to carve it tonight and have promised something spectacular. Check out the Boy’s Zorro costume – looks pretty cool.

Vicki has suggested that I add some new things to do to my zzzZ Bored? list. She’s run out of ways to waste time. So check out the Tangram puzzles. Or try a few of the Halloween related games that I’ve added. I really like Bill the Demon – he eats souls.

Here’s a little Halloween photo fun from Wanda. Click on the link below. It’s pretty cool and the sound is awesome so turn up your volume and study the two pictures closely. Can you see the hidden Halloween message? The closer you look, the clearer the image will be. Don’t let the German words distract you, they have nothing to do with the image. You’ll see what I mean if you give it your undivided attention.
