We lost our cable and internet access again sometime during the night Tuesday but it’s back on this morning.
Turns out, some jackass in our neighborhood (one of the lucky ones with power) called to complain about the lack of cable service enough times that Cable One brought a gas-powered generator out to our neighborhood to power the cable transmission station. When the generator ran out of gas Tuesday evening the cable went out again.
Unbelievable! There are literally tens-of-thousands of people still without electricity (down to 35,000 as of this morning) and heat. Area shelters are full of people forced to stay there to keep from freezing to death. Others are huddling in their relatives or neighbors homes, but instead of using that generator to keep people warm….
“Hey my cable is still out!”
“I’m sorry sir. Power lines are down all over the county. Your neighbors have no electricity or heat. The president has declared our county a disaster area…”
“It’s been out for 3 days. I’m paying for this service. When are you going to get this fixed!”
“Well, our emergency generators are being used to keep old ladies and babies from freezing to death…”
“Go get one and get my cable working immediately or I will continue to call and be a jackass until you do!”
In happier news, my neighbors have power again. Also, Noah and Andrew were able to go home last night after their power was restored. Amber, Jamie and Adree are still without power and will probably have to stay here another few days. On the plus side, we’re getting to spend plenty of time with Amber and getting to know her roommates better.
The kids are still out of school and likely to be out the rest of the week. All the kids except Violet are happy about that. She’s about to test out of her 12’s and get her ice cream sundae.
The temperature has warmed up to the high 20’s - still not warm enough to melt off any of the ice. More bad weather in the form of snow is expected on Saturday so I’m going to force myself to do a full grocery shopping trip to stock up before that storm hits.
Today is Eric’s birthday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIC! Be sure to stop by the Family Message Board and give him a birthday shout out.
