The house is empty and quiet today. Jamie’s mom came to pick her up on Friday. Sadly, her grandmother passed away. Amber and Adree went home last night - their electric is finally back on after nearly a week.
I spent the day putting away extra blankets and pillows and cleaning up. It feels strange to have the house empty again. It’s been like a week long slumber party with all the extra kids around. Staying up late, watching movies, loafing in pajamas until noon. Loud talking and laughter. Everyone seemed to get along wonderfully.
The kids have liked it too. It’s been a long time since I’ve cooked breakfast every morning - pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, french toast, oatmeal; not to mention yummy doughnuts and fresh baked muffins. Violet wants some reassurance that the breakfast goodness will continue - especially my special “Granny’s oatmeal”. I’m a little tired of cooking big meals though. Steve must have known that because he suggested we go out to eat last night. Heaven!
Tomorrow the kids will go back to school and life will get back to normal. It’s annoying to have your life disrupted sometimes and no electricity is a real bummer but the past week has been a chance to spend time with Amber and get to know her roommates a little better. It’s like the ice storm brought us an unexpected gift that turned out to be wonderful.
