I’m finding it difficult to write posts. I think because I don’t want to reveal too much about what I’m thinking lately. February ended as a very crappy month. I shouldn’t have been surprised - it’s the darkest part of the winter when the gloom of cold weather has beaten you down and Spring still seems so far away.

Soccer practice clothesHere’s some (mildly) interesting (and benign) news…tonight I will debut as a Soccer Mom. Violet has her first practice this evening. Over the weekend we got the “soccer practice clothes” - check out these cute sweats and adorable shirt. We also picked up a pair of soccer cleats - in girly black and pink of course. I was going to buy Violet a pink soccer ball to practice with since our old one is in sad, deflated shape. Did you know that soccer balls come in different sizes? I was not aware of this until now - and I don’t know what size to get her. I think the sizes are based on how much skill you have at kicking the ball. Violet is an unknown quantity at this point having never played soccer. Still, she’s pretty good at kicking other things - maybe that will prove to have been excellent soccer training. I’ll have to check with her coach tonight after practice while the kids are drinking their juice boxes.

Violet will be dressed to kick some soccer ball tonight but what am I going to wear? Should I go for the Katie Holmes look? Or should I follow the established ’soccer mom’ dress code? Last I heard soccer moms are required to wear sweats along with a hooded parka and stadium blanket on cold days, and capri pants with solid color short-sleeve shirts on warm days to soccer games. Appropriate footwear for all weather is athletic shoes.

Eh - no matter what I wear I’m sure to be just slightly wrong. Maybe I can prevent total embarrassment to Violet as long as I have cool sunglasses and a grande Starbucks Mocha Latte.

Edited@9:27pm Sadly, Violet’s soccer practice was cancelled for this evening. We looked good too - I wore my matching pink and black windbreaker and those really cute sketchers I bought recently. Violet came home and had a consolation ice cream cone - she didn’t want to eat any “junk” food before practice - and dropped chocolate down the front of her new pink sweatshirt. Hopefully that’ll come out in the wash otherwise next week I’m going to look like the lame mom who brings her kid to practice in stained clothing. :(
