I’m headed to Little Rock early this morning for Lynn’s graduation.
I leave you with this poem that really struck me yesterday when I was looking for the story of The Red Shoes. The imagery is so vivid. The poem is called Cat Woman and it was written by Arlene Ang.
First thing she does
is remove her shoes — scarlet,
slight wobble of left heel.
The fluorescent lamp simmers black.
Outside it’s daylight. The window
overlooks a game of hopscotch.
The word jump cycles little black holes
underbreath. She takes an aspirin.
The ledge blinds her,
like another shot of vodka:
she’s on the ninth story,
she’s on the ninth life.
She licks the salt in her wounds.
