My kids want us to fork over $2500 for band. Yes, that’s right I said band. Band!
Is it for a new instrument? Nope. Really expensive private lessons? Nope - It’s a trip to Orlando and Disney World!
An all-expenses paid (by their parents) trip that will include 3 days at Disney (where they will stay in a Disney hotel and perform in the Main Street parade), 1 day at Universal Studios, a tour of the Kennedy Space Center and a day at Cocoa Beach! They’ll have their meals at various tasty venues including the Rainforest Cafe and the Space Center cafe. AND there will be 2 special surprise events that they will NEVER forget!!!
See, these kids slave away during the year marching in parades, performing at football games and competitions. According to the band booster president the kids need some much-deserved fun after all their hard work AND it’ll give the band a chance to be seen nationally for a chance at even more opportunities to spend our hard earned money even bigger competitions!
The band, of course, wants as many children as possible to go to Orlando so there will be many opportunities for the students to raise the majority, if not all, of the money they need through fundraising. That’s a good thing since we can’t just pop outside to the money tree in the backyard and yank off a couple handfuls of hundred dollar bills.
Delivering phone books to the residents of Joplin is one of those fundraisers. We only need to deliver 7812 phone books to earn enough money for the trip. We delivered 520 yesterday afternoon in about 4.5 hours so it should only take us another 8 or 9 days or so of delivering phone books from daylight til dark to earn all the money. Thank goodness we don’t have anything else to do for the next week or so!
Updated@3:20 pm to say: OMG! It’s 105 degrees outside. 105 actual degrees not just “feels like” degrees! We’re melting! We only have a kazillion more phone books to deliver.
