This post probably needs a little bit of backstory because I’m pretty sure that even though I do a lot of bragging about my children on this site I may have missed telling you about Violet’s singing career.
Earlier this year (like at the beginning of September), Violet decided that she would like to be in Joplin All City Singers. All City Singers is a city-wide chorus for 4th and 5th graders but you have to try out for it. So, she auditioned (several times) and was selected to be part of ACS and has been practicing every Tuesday for the last 3 months.
Tuesday evening was the Winter Holiday Concert.
The older kids (mainly Vicki and Jon) spent the concert trying to get Violet to crack up laughing or otherwise screw up. They particularly enjoyed it when they were able to get her to believe she had something on her face and she started wiping her cheek over and over. Good times.
I tried to record some of the songs but I was mostly foiled by a tot sitting behind me who kept jibber-jabbering, kicking me, tapping me on the back of the head and (!) pulling my hair. The kid’s father kept apologizing but really, after the first time, I don’t think he was even trying to stop the kid from attacking me. Nice.
I ordered a DVD to share with the grandparents but here’s a little snippet for your enjoyment. And yes that is us whoooing at the end :-)
Today the chorus went on a singing tour of Joplin’s elementary schools. Apparently, it wasn’t as much fun as Violet anticipated. All that standing and singing is much harder than it looks. According to Vi, the best part of the day was the all-you-can-eat Pizza buffet that they went to for lunch. Well, that and the fact that she got to skip out on school all day.
