Love at first spike

One thing about being a SAHM that is hard is telling your kids no they can’t do this or that activity. After all, YOU’RE HOME ALL DAY! What else have you got to do except cart them (and their friends) around here and there.

Luckily, April and Jon are both old enough to drive themselves anywhere they need to go. Violet is the only one who still needs to be carted around. And boy does she need carting around. Holy beejeesus that girl’s got a social life!

Beyond the play dates with friends and various sleepovers and what not, she also belongs to an ever-lengthening list of groups and activities. We no sooner finish with one activity and there is another one starting. Currently she has PSR (Sundays), Girls Scouts (Mondays), Book Club (Tuesdays), and Awana’s (Wednesdays). Apparently 4 days a week just wasn’t active enough for her because now we’ve added Volleyball with practices on Thursdays and games on Monday evenings after Girl Scouts.

Action shot - wooo!

These are camera phone pictures! I love my new toy essential piece of communications equipment. :-)

Do the bumpSince she’s never played volleyball before she has a lot of room for improvement. The coach has a number of practice drills that the girls are supposed to do at home. April has been kind enough to help Violet out with her drills. That’s good. Cause it’s still too cold outside for me to want to hang around out there for very long. And bad. April’s never played volleyball before either. Of couse, she can’t exactly get Amber or Steph to help her since they don’t live here anymore, and Vicki gave volleyball a very brief try before deciding that she not only didn’t like it but had absolutely no VB skills.

Stuff

Beyond the time commitment for all these activities, there’s the financial one. No wonder some parents don’t encourage their children to play sports. Every new sport requires yet another investment in clothing, shoes and equipment. If anyone tells you that participating in sports is a priceless experience for your child don’t believe them. I have the receipts to prove them wrong!
