Nearly there…

Eighteen days from now 2 more of our little birds will be thrown from the nest out into the cold cruel world. Ok, maybe not out into the cold cruel world. In fact, on the surface nothing will change. But still, graduation day is fast approaching. April and Jon will be done with high school and technically we will be finished (ha!) raising them.

In mid-August they will move from our house to the dorms at college. When that happens, our tuition bills will increase (3 kids in college - ahhhh!), but my laundry will decrease significantly and that’s something to cheer about!

Violet celebrated her 1st Communion a couple weekends ago. After you helped pick her dress, I thought you might like to see what she looked like. She looked like beautiful!

or Devilish?

The dress we ended up choosing was absolutely perfect for Violet. She looked like a little bride…a little bride for Jesus. More photos on my flickr site.

Steve’s parents were in town to celebrate with us and they got a chance to watch/listen to April compete in the District Solo and Ensembles competition at nearby MSSU.

In other news, Amber received confirmation that she has been accepted to graduate school at Wichita State University. So, looks like she’ll be moving to Wichita, Kansas in the fall. Wichita is about 4 hours (185 miles) northwest of us.

Back to basics

Posted on April 16th, 2008 in Blogging, Daily by virginia

About 11 years ago, I started a website as a way to keep in touch with extended family and help the grandparents know what was going on in the kid’s lives. I posted pictures of the kids and wrote cheerful monthly newsletters about what the kids were doing and what was going on at our house.

Somehow when I switched to this blog style of website, I strayed away from the “Family News” format and started posting about other things.

Unfortunately, when I post about those other things, I find myself editing everything I want to say to death. The need to constantly over-analyze everything I write in order to make sure I don’t hurt someone’s feelings or reveal something that I shouldn’t is tiring. It also leads to severe writer’s block.

So, I’m going back to basics here. I’m planning to post on this site about once a week - probably on Mondays - with lots of pictures and news about the kids and I’ll save my rants, complaints and miscellaneous observations about other subjects for elsewhere.

I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile. Nothing has happened recently to prompt this change so don’t get your shorts in a twist. I am also considering implementing a user/password system - several of my children don’t like “a bunch of strangers” looking at the details of their lives. I’m looking at some options and I’ll give you a heads up before I implement any kind of registered user requirement.
